那天跟美國的朋友談起,聖誕卡上怎麼都不見了Merry Christmas的蹤影,取而代之的是Happy Holidays?他們說,現在百貨商店等都不會這樣說了,凡涉及宗教意味的都遭到評擊,曾有商場中的聖景佈置給毁壞,佈置中的聖嬰模型甚至給丟進河裡.
美國以基督教立國,從建國宣言到教育及建制等各方面都充滿對神的信仰,但今天在美國,要購買印有 “Merry Christmas”的聖誕裝飾已十分困難,學校不可擺放馬糟聖嬰模型,凡關於耶穌的東西都要挪去,法院亦不准貼十誡命。
然而,根據CNN/今日美國/蓋洛普調查公佈的電話調查,逾七成大多數美國人仍希望在節日裏說一聲“聖誕快樂”而非“佳節快樂”。
其實說“聖誕快樂”有什麼不好,這原來就是一個慶祝耶穌誕生的節日吧!

I find it ridiculous too. I mean you can choose not to celebrate xmas, but the day is Jesus's birthday and it's a christian holiday. you can call it whatever, but it doesn't change its meaning, so why avoid it?
you know in UK some companies don't allow staff to wear a cross? i think initially they want to prevent the muslims to wear the full veil, but in order to sound "politically correct", they have to ban wearing "cross".
but what if I wear a cross cos I like Madonna (the singer) and not for religion???? :P
係啦,即使有人同我講「我佛慈悲」我都唔會覺得佢冒犯我,尊重別人都好重要,當年Rosle(回教同事,仲記唔記得?)成日係公司洗腳同祈禱,我地都尊重佢啦。
