那天跟美國的朋友談起，聖誕卡上怎麼都不見了Merry Christmas的蹤影，取而代之的是Happy Holidays？他們說，現在百貨商店等都不會這樣說了，凡涉及宗教意味的都遭到評擊，曾有商場中的聖景佈置給毁壞，佈置中的聖嬰模型甚至給丟進河裡．
美國以基督教立國，從建國宣言到教育及建制等各方面都充滿對神的信仰，但今天在美國，要購買印有 “Merry Christmas”的聖誕裝飾已十分困難，學校不可擺放馬糟聖嬰模型，凡關於耶穌的東西都要挪去，法院亦不准貼十誡命。
然而，根據CNN/今日美國/蓋洛普調查公佈的電話調查，逾七成大多數美國人仍希望在節日裏說一聲“聖誕快樂”而非“佳節快樂”。
其實說“聖誕快樂”有什麼不好，這原來就是一個慶祝耶穌誕生的節日吧！

I find it ridiculous too. I mean you can choose not to celebrate xmas, but the day is Jesus's birthday and it's a christian holiday. you can call it whatever, but it doesn't change its meaning, so why avoid it?
you know in UK some companies don't allow staff to wear a cross? i think initially they want to prevent the muslims to wear the full veil, but in order to sound "politically correct", they have to ban wearing "cross".
but what if I wear a cross cos I like Madonna (the singer) and not for religion???? :P
